Elaine John

Elaine John initially came to development from a background in marketing, public relations and teaching English literature. Prior to joining the QVMC leadership team in early 2011, she served as chief executive of the St. Helena Hospital Foundation. During her tenure there, Ms. John transformed the foundation from an adjunct of the marketing department raising $700,000 per year into a very active, independent charitable organization raising over $80 million. That total included $28 million to help build the Johnson Pavilion that now houses the Martin-O’Neil Cancer Center and the Trinchero Surgery Center. She also guided the establishment of the St. Helena Hospital Foundation’s Gala, an event that now generates net proceeds of more than $1 million annually.

Ms. John is a past recipient of the North Bay Business Journal’s 2010 Women in Business Leadership Award in Health Care, the Seventh Adventist System’s Women of Distinction Award and the 2008 Trailblazer in Adventist Philanthropy Award. Ms. John also established the hospital’s “President’s Forum,” a program that encourages donors to become part of the hospital family by providing education on the latest trends in medicine, fitness, prevention and nutrition.

Elaine John is certified by the Indiana University Center of Philanthropy’s Fund Raising School.
