14th "Reach for the Stars," Celebrates Raising Funds and Raising Spirits

Napa, CA—For 14 years, "Reach for the Stars" has been changing lives of those challenged by cancer. This year’s luncheon and fashion show will be held Saturday, April 21, 2007 at The Meritage Resort.

While the original goal for this heartwarming event, still holds true, the inspirational stories that the models and guests share, touch upon its powerful effects.  The friendship that develops between the models and their supporting families are inspirational to those in the audience.  This event gives us all the strength, hope, and courage to beat this terrible disease.

"Reach for the Stars" has raised awareness and has contributed proceeds directly toward the purchase of several of the technological breakthroughs in cancer treatment available at Queen of the Valley Medical Center’s Breast and Cancer Centers, such as Stereotactic Breast Biopsy, Digital Mammography machines, Brachytherapy, and linear accelerator.  Proceeds from this year’s event will go to the Queen of the Valley Cancer Wellness Program.

The Cancer Wellness Program is for cancer patients only. The approach is holistic and multi-disciplinary and involves exercise, nutrition, medication management, psyco-social and spiritual support. The program is individually designed for each cancer patient as they are having chemotherapy or radiation therapy. National studies are showing that certain side effects of cancer treatment, such as nausea and fatigue, can be mitigated with this program. Our own pilot program of 10 cancer patients showed hopeful results both in the mitigation of side effects and in increasing quality of life during treatment.

"We are thrilled and excited to offer this service to our community and believe we are breaking new ground in cancer treatment," said Dick Green, Vice-President and Chief Development Officer for Queen of the Valley Hospital Foundation.

Queen of the Valley Hospital Foundation will also have special "stars" available in honor, or remembrance of those who have been touched by cancer.  For a $100 donation, a star with the honoree’s name will help decorate the ballroom on the day of the event, as well as the name listed in the official program. You can reserve a star by contacting the Special Events office of Queen of the Valley Hospital Foundation at 707-251-1882.

To KICK-OFF the Reach for the Stars Weekend Celebration Queen of the Valley Hospital Foundation will host a festive strolling reception on Friday, April 20 at the Silverado Resort with film and television actress Meredith Baxter, known to many as Elyse Keaton from the 80’s hit show Family Ties.  As a cancer survivor, Ms. Baxter will share her experiences with cancer from living to healing.

"Reach for the Stars" is sponsored by Queen of the Valley Hospital Foundation. The foundation seeks to make a difference by generating support of the war against cancer. A thank you to our special supporters and underwriters: Alkar Human Resources, Bell Products, Inc, Dey, L.P., KVON/KVYN, Napa Valley Register, Napa Printing & Graphics, Queen of the Valley Medical Center, Solano Magazine, The Vintage Bank, Wine Valley Catering, Your Home . . .
