Queen of the Valley Named One of Twenty Hospitals Nationwide Recognized for Patient Satisfaction

Napa, CA - Queen of the Valley Medical Center (QVMC) is one of only 20 hospitals in the nation to receive the "Overall Best Performer" award for achievements in patient satisfaction from Avatar International, one of the nation’s leading healthcare research and consulting firms. The award recognizes the firm’s top-performing hospital partners that maintain consistently high standards of patient care across multiple service lines.

Award winners were chosen from a pool of more than 300 health care providers. As one of only 20 hospitals receiving the honor, Queen of the Valley joins the top 5 percent in overall patient ratings among hospitals in Avatar’s database.

"To have achieved this type of recognition over the multiple services that we offer here at Queen of the Valley is a tribute to the quality of care delivered across the board by our dedicated and compassionate staff," says Dennis Sisto, President and CEO at Queen of the Valley. "It’s gratifying for a hospital to receive high patient scores on any one service. When patients commend the care in so many areas, it is indeed an honor."

The Overall Best Performance award is based on the results of the hospital’s patient surveys from October 2007 to October 2008. It is awarded to those hospitals with the highest overall combined score for Inpatient, Outpatient, Emergency Department, and Ambulatory Surgery.

"At Queen of the Valley, we are committed to continuous process improvement, including service quality training, focused attention on any areas in which we feel we could enhance our performance, and other initiatives designed to create a care experience that exceeds patient expectations," says Walt Mickens, Chief Operating Officer at Queen of the Valley.

Patients are mailed surveys following their stay at, or visit to, the hospital, that measure how they perceive their experience on a variety of parameters, from nursing care to the physical environment. The questions on each survey are customized to measure patients’ satisfaction with the specific services received.

Avatar is a research and consulting company based in Orlando, FL, that specializes in patient quality surveys for healthcare organizations. In addition to conducting surveys, Avatar provides consulting services to healthcare organizations nationally, including small community hospitals, academic medical centers, large regional medical centers, integrated healthcare systems, long-term care and behavioral health organizations.
