World-renowned authority to present free talk on hormone replacement at Queen of the Valley Wellness Center

Napa, California – Queen of the Valley Medical Center will sponsor a free talk on "Hormone
Replacement Therapy in the 21st Century" by renowned authority Dan Mishell, Jr., M.D., on
Thursday, July 23, at 6 p.m. at the Queen’s Wellness Center, 3421 Villa Lane (2nd Floor), Napa.

Dr. Mishell is the Lyle G. McNeile professor, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, at the University of Southern California’s School of Medicine, and is one of the world’s foremost authorities on women’s hormone replacement therapy. He has also written extensively on the topics of gynecology, fertility, menopause, contraception and reproductive endocrinology.

Among other things, Dr. Mishell will address factors—from physiological processes to marketing practices—that influence physician and patient choices in the search to alleviate the symptoms of menopause. "Since 2002, when the National Institute of Health halted a study of 16,000 women taking a combination of estrogen and progestin, because data suggested the combination slightly increased the chance of heart disease, stroke and breast cancer, women have struggled to sort through the myths and realities of hormone replacement," said Dr Mishell. "Further complicating their choices has been the emergence of over-the-counter compounds and substances, such as ‘bioidentical hormones,’ that are not regulated by the FDA, and whose benefits—and risks—have not yet been scientifically established."

"We’ll explore some of the facts and misconceptions associated with various therapeutic options and talk about some of the exciting developments that lie ahead in the field of hormone replacement therapy," said Dr. Mishell.

Seating is limited for the talk. For information, or to reserve a seat, please call 1-877-QUEENLINE (1-877-783-3654).
