QUEEN OF THE VALLEY MEDICAL CENTER CO-SPONSORS INAUGURAL BIKE RIDE & RUN

(Napa, CA) – On May 23, 2010, cyclists and runners of all ages and skill levels are invited to participate in Napa’s inaugural "Gran Fondo" Ride/Walk Event. The bulk of entry fees and additional donations raised by participating teams will support the Cancer programs at Queen of the Valley Cancer Center and St. Helena Hospital. A portion of the funds will also support the Napa Valley Vine Trail in their grassroots effort to create a multi-use trail from Calistoga to Vallejo.

Starting in downtown Napa, the cycling trail winds 30-, 60- or 100 miles (depending on the participants distance choice) along the historic Silverado Trail and then out through the rolling hills of the wine country. Once on top of the Valley wall, riders will get the thrill of a fast descent and then a challenging climb up the Eastern Sonoma hills before coming back down into Napa. Runners and walkers will follow a scenic 5K route leaving from the same starting line.

"This event will not only be a lot of healthful fun for our community but the event will provide a terrific, ongoing benefit for Napa area cancer patients in the years ahead. We are encouraging our employees and community members to sign up, participate and volunteer during the event." said Dick Green, Vice President and Chief Development Officer for Queen of the Valley Medical Center Foundation.

Executive Director of PlanetZ/Echelon Hunter Zeising explains, "We stage events relying on a unique partnership with donors, volunteers, corporate partners and charitable recipients. Our goals are to create a uniquely fulfilling experience for our participants and a significant contribution to worthy, local programs. Everyone gives…and everyone receives."

The event will start 8:30 at Napa’s Veteran’s Park. Cyclists will hit the trail at 9:30am. Shortly after the cyclists depart much of downtown Napa will be closed for the inaugural Echelon 5k Run/Walk benefit for cancer research, beginning at 10:30am. Deadline for team and individual registration is May 16, 2010.
