(Napa, CA) - The Queen of the Valley Medical Center Diabetes Wellness Program (DWP) was recently recognized by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) through their contractor, Iowa Foundations for Medical Care (IFMC) for its excellent performance.
The IFMC recognized the Queen’s DWP based on a recent, random assessment of diabetes wellness programs throughout California. As a Recognized Education Program with both the American Association of Diabetes Educators and the American Diabetes Association, the DWP is required to uphold national standards established by these organizations - when accredited with one or both.
Michael C. Merwin, M.D., Chair of the QVMC Medical Staff Quality Council said, "As chair of the Medical Staff Quality Council, may I congratulate you on the recent favorable audit. They were quite impressed, stating that ‘your program is fully meeting standards’ and that ‘documentation revealed a strong collaboration between physicians and the instructional staff.’ Further, they noted, ‘Your participants are fortunate to have such qualified educators working with them’."
"We were thrilled that the CMS was impressed with our program and particularly with the performance of our educators," said Nita Durham, Program Coordinator - Queen of the Valley Diabetes Wellness Program. "As our nation ages and struggles with a growing problem of obesity, diabetes has become an increasingly prevalent health issue. At the Queen of the Valley DWP we are continually exploring new and more effective ways to help our clients prevent or reduce the severity of diabetes problems. I want to thank our instructors for the important and very effective services they provide for our Napa neighbors and surrounding areas."
