34th Annual "Day for the Queen" on August 19 to Benefit Peggy Herman Neuroscience Center at Queen of the Valley Medical Center

(Napa, CA) - The Queen of the Valley Medical Center (QVMC) Foundation will host its 34th Annual "Day for the Queen" fundraiser on Friday, August 19, 2011, with the theme of "A White Diamond Affair." The event celebrates the beauty and bounty of life in the Wine Country, with activities ranging from golf to a dinner and dance at the scenic, world-renowned Silverado Resort in Napa.

"Day for the Queen" can be credited with contributing significantly to the quality of health care in
Napa Valley. Over the years, this highly successful and popular event has raised more than $1.2
million to assist Queen of the Valley Medical Center in its mission to provide high-quality, compassionate health care to residents of the Napa Valley and beyond.

Proceeds for this year’s event will benefit the Peggy Herman Neuroscience Center at QVMC,
recently established through a collaboration between the Queen and the University of California,
San Francisco’s Department of Neurosurgery, and a generous donation from Tim Herman, a
QVMC Foundation Trustee, in memory of his wife, Peggy. The center offers one the most
advanced neurological resources in the region.

"The value of having these types of services immediately available is incalculable for those who
have suffered a sudden, severe neurological or spine injury," says Elaine John, VP, Foundation.
"Prompt, expert care can make the difference between life and death, and between full recovery
and life-long disability."

"Day for the Queen" will help provide funds for these vital, neuroscience services, with proceeds
from a day-long series of activities that can be enjoyed individually or on a package basis. They
include:

  • Women’s tennis: A women’s tennis tournament kicks off the day’s festivities at 8:30 a.m.
  • Men’s tennis: Men’s tournament begins at 1:00 p.m.
Both sets are played on the "Member Courts" by the mansion.
  • Murray Memorial Golf Tournament: Golf features a shotgun starting at 11am and includes lunch and beverages and the evening barbecue. Players should arrive at least one hour before tee-time. Prizes will be awarded in the evening.
  • Fashion show & Luncheon: The fashion show reception begins at 11 a.m. With décor echoing the theme of "A White Diamond Affair," the fashion show will feature fashions from The Mustard Seed and Williamson & Co. Menswear. Luncheon seating begins at 11:45 a.m.
  • Dinner and dance: Evening festivities begin with cocktails at 6:00 p.m., followed by a
barbecue dinner at 7 p.m. After dinner, the celebration continues with dancing under the stars to the music of Wonderbread 5, one of Napa’s most popular bands.
