Queen of the Valley Medical Center Earns Prestigious Aster Award for "Name the Robot" Campaign

(Napa, CA) – Queen of the Valley Medical Center recently received a bronze medal from the Aster Awards, a medical marketing awards program, in recognition of its "Name the Robot" campaign.

QVMC earned the award in the category of "Total Advertising Campaign." The Aster Awards, one of the largest national competitions of its kind, is hosted by Marketing Healthcare Today magazine and Creative Images, Inc. The program recognizes outstanding healthcare professionals for excellence in their advertising/marketing efforts for the calendar year 2010.

The Queen’s "Name the Robot" campaign featured a contest among Napa area children to name the medical center’s newly acquired surgical robot. Six-year-old Austin Whitehead, a student at Napa’s Vichy Elementary School, submitted the winning entry, "Sir Lancebot."

The campaign utilized flyers, press releases, articles in the medical center’s community newsletter and ads to help publicize the campaign and encourage entries.

"’Our Name the Robot’ contest drew more than 700 entries, and created a fun way for the community to become excited about, and involved in, the arrival of our new surgical robot," said Jaime Peñaherrera, Director of Marketing, Communications and Public Relations at Queen of the Valley. "It was also a great way to get the word out about the benefits of robotically assisted procedures and our advanced surgical capabilities in this specialized area."

The 2011 Aster Awards received approximately 3,000 entries from across the United States as well as Canada and South America. Participants’ entries competed against similar-sized organizations in their category.

Entries must score at least in the top 16 percent to receive an award. Judging criteria includes creativity, layout and design, functionality, message effectiveness, production quality and overall appeal of the marketing materials submitted.

"It was an honor to have the number of healthcare organizations and agencies that participated in the 2011 Aster Awards Competition. The quality of this year’s entries went well beyond the judges’ expectations," said Melinda R. Lucas, Aster Awards Program Coordinator.

Adding to this important recognition is Queen’s website (www.thequeen.org), which just a few months ago earned two honors in the 11th Annual eHealthcare Leadership Awards, a Silver Award for Best Health/Healthcare Content and a Distinction Award for "Best Overall Site" in the hospital category.

"We are proud to tell the story of Queen of the Valley Medical Center through our various communications efforts," said Peñaherrera. "And that story is of a world-class medical center, with award-winning Heart, Cancer, Orthopaedic and Wellness Centers, a soon-to-open Neuroscience Center, and a history of invaluable community support."
