Queen of the Valley Medical Center Presents "Cancer as a Turning Point: From Surviving to Thriving™"

NAPA, CA – On September 17, 2011 Queen of the Valley Medical Center presents "Cancer As A Turning Point: From Surviving to ThrivingTM." From 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., in the Lincoln Theater in Yountville, CA, nationally known experts at this free celebration of life will share how anyone touched by cancer - or any life altering illness - can experience healing at the deepest levels, including mind, body and spirit. Featured speakers at this daylong event will include:

  • Queen of the Valley Medical Center panel moderated by clinicians and cancer survivors
  • Jeremy R. Geffen, MD, FACP, a leading pioneer in integrative medicine and oncology, will present "The Seven Levels of Healing: Celebrating Life and Spirit on the Journey Through Cancer"
  • Lise Alschuler, ND, board certified in naturopathic oncology and celebrated author will explain, "Creating a Body That Cancer Doesn’t Like"
  • Jeff Metcalf, an award-winning playwright will present a remarkably honest and outrageously funny play entitled "A Slight Discomfort," about his experience with prostate cancer
  • Marilyn Mandala Schlitz, PhD, a clinical research scientist, medical anthropologist, writer, speaker and thought leader for more than three decades will share her field-based research in the areas of human transformation, consciousness studies, worldview literacy and cultural healing
  • Gary Malkin, an Emmy award-winning composer and public speaker with a 25-year career, will present words and music that inspire the heart, bridge cross-cultural differences, and catalyze individual and collective healing
  • More program details, schedule, registration details and brochure

Jan Adrian, founder and Executive Director of Healing Journeys, an organization providing the Cancer as a Turning Point program around the country says, "Cancer is an issue that touches every one of us. Whether we've been diagnosed, are being treated, or are a friend or family member that is supporting someone with cancer, we need information, inspiration, support, and a sense of community."

"Modern medicine has developed, and will continue to develop wonderful, new medications and treatments for cancer," says Jaime Peñaherrera Director of Marketing, Communications & Public Relations, Queen of the Valley Medical Center, "But the power of the human spirit is still one of the most extraordinarily important tools for dealing with the complicated and difficult issues presented by this dread disease."
