Patients at Queen of the Valley Medical Center need all the special care we can give them. We believe that it’s very important for patients to have contact with family and friends while they are here. You are an important part of their care.
We ask that you observe a few simple policies in the spirit of compassion for the patients, caregivers and other visitors to the Queen. The Concierge, located in the Lobby near the main medical center entrance, is available to assist you with any questions you may have about visiting with family members and friends.
Our goal is to create a welcoming environment for our visitors, while meeting the needs of our patients. All of us at Queen of the Valley Medical Center thank you for your patience and cooperation when visiting our facility.
Before You Visit
Before you visit the medical center, it’s a good idea to call and confirm that the patient is still here. When you arrive, please stop at the Concierge desk to confirm the patient’s location and obtain directions. A patient may have been moved or discharged from the medical center since you last checked.
General visiting hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., seven days a week, including holidays. On some units, visiting hours can be up to 24-hours per day, with the right to limit or restrict visitation if it interferes with the care of the patient or other patients on the unit. Please ask a nurse for details.
All our patients have the right to visitation while under the care, treatment and service of Queen of the Valley Medical Center. All visitors shall receive equal visitation privileges consistent with patient preferences. The right to limit or restrict visitation may occur when visitation would interfere with the care, treatment or service of the patient or other patients as determined by the registered nurse/manager/supervisor or physician.
Number of Visitors
Two visitors are allowed in a patient’s room at any time. Too many people in the room may tire the patient and disturb other patients. We recommend you come in small groups so you minimize disruption to patient care, and allow a patient plenty of time for rest between visits.
Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult at all times in all areas of the hospital.
Waiting areas are designed to provide a comfortable place for families to rest and relax when visiting a patient. Sleeping is not permitted in the waiting areas. It is best to go home if you or a family member is tired.
Please do not bring large groups to the waiting areas. If you have a large family or group of people, we ask that you use the Lobby and Cafeteria areas as much as possible to help minimize noise and maintain a safe environment.
When Not to Visit
Your supportive presence with a patient can actually cause the person harm if you are bringing contagious illness with you. Please do not visit a patient if:
- You don’t feel well.
- You have a fever.
- You have a cold, sore throat or flu.
- You have been recently exposed to and never had chicken pox, measles or mumps.
Patients have phones in their rooms. You may call the patient and “visit” if you are not feeling well.
The Concierge, located in the Lobby near the main entrance, assists families and visitors with information about our hospital. Concierge staff is available Monday-Friday, 6:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. on weekends. Please call 252-4411, ext. 2011 for assistance.
Food and Beverages
Food and beverages may not be brought into patient rooms or waiting areas. Visitors may eat in the Cafeteria on the 1st floor or out on the patio during visitor hours.
The Cafeteria is located down the hall from the Lobby and across from the first elevator. The Cafeteria is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with plenty of indoor seating and an adjacent outdoor patio.
Hot meals are served 7:30 - 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., and 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. At all times, vending machines are available to serve snacks and drinks.
Cell phones may not be used anywhere inside the hospital.
Please do not use the phone in a patient’s room to make calls. These phones are intended for patient use only. If you need to make a call use one of the pay phones located throughout the medical center on each floor.
As of March 1, 2010 Queen of the Medical Center became a smoke-free campus. Smoking is prohibited in all buildings, parking lots and outdoor areas.
The Queen’s Collection is located next to the Lobby by the main medical center entrance. The Queen’s Collection offers a wide variety of unique items for the home and gifts for all ages.
