A Safe and Comfortable Pregnancy

Welcoming a baby into the world is one of life’s greatest experiences – one that should fill your heart with joy. Let us be your partner during the months leading up to your delivery day, ensuring you approach your pregnancy with both happy anticipation and confidence.

Providence’s experts work with you. We dig deep into your preferences and concerns and help you discover the most up-to-date options that are best for your situation. We listen to you and help you make informed choices. It’s a pregnancy journey that addresses your head and heart – and that makes a lot of sense at this special time.

Let’s Plan Together

When you choose an obstetrician-gynecologist (OB-GYN) to be your partner through pregnancy and delivery, we’ll help you create a birth plan that fits your preferences. We respect and honor your plan–understanding that preferences and safety concerns can change throughout your pregnancy and right up to delivery day.

Developing a birth plan is easier with an OB-GYN who listens to you, understands you, and shares in your decision-making. Need help finding an OB to fit your personality and preferences? Take this list of questions with you to your first appointment to help you find an OB-GYN partner who’s right for you.

A Modern Labor and Delivery Approach

When you go into labor, you can expect the same level of supportive, compassionate, and safe care you’ve received throughout your pregnancy. We’ll respect your birth plan, and you’ll be able to choose when and if pain medication will be used. Your labor and delivery experience will be based on your preferences and what is safest for you and your baby at the time of delivery.

Most babies can be born with very little medical help, and that’s good news because when we minimize surgical intervention, we help ensure a safer delivery. We’ll monitor your health and the health of your baby during the labor and birthing process. Unless necessary, we’ll work with you to avoid common interventions like inducing labor or episiotomy to help prevent dangerous complications that can delay healing.

Lower Risk. Higher Confidence

At the same time, we know every birth is different, as is every new mom. If you choose an epidural for pain relief–even if you change your mind from your birth plan–we will honor your request when it’s safe to do. You are in charge of your birth experience, and that means easing your discomfort.

Did you know that women are three times more likely to experience complications during cesarean delivery? For your safety, our OB-GYNs encourage vaginal birth even if you’ve had a previous C-section, when possible. However, there are times when a cesarean delivery may be medically necessary, and our experts will help ensure both you and your baby are safe and comfortable.

Let’s Start this Journey Together

If you’re ready for an outstanding pregnancy experience, start by choosing an OB-GYN who will be a good fit for you and will prioritize your safety. It’s so important to find someone who listens to you, doesn't pressure you, and gets you–both your head and your heart.

It’s your pregnancy. Let Providence be your partner.

Since 1954, women throughout the Napa Valley region have trusted us with the lives of their newborns. We offer a warm, welcoming environment, expert medical care for you and your baby, and customized support during your pregnancy and beyond. We make your experience as easy and worry-free as possible so that you can concentrate on welcoming your new baby into your family.

You and your baby will be surrounded by a team of experts who will support you from labor through delivery and beyond. Our team includes:

After your baby is born in one of our five labor and delivery rooms, you’ll have time to rest and bond with your little one in a large, private after-birth suite with sleeper chairs and couches. For babies who need more support, we offer six intensive care nursery beds.

Queen of the Valley Medical Center partners with Mom365 to provide portraits of your newborn. This program is temporarily suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic but will return when it’s safe.

Breastfeeding support

We understand that breastfeeding can be stressful and difficult for some mothers and babies. Rest assured we provide lactation support and education during your stay at the Center for Maternal and Infant Care and after you go home, if you need it. You’ll meet our lactation team during admission to the hospital.

Queen of the Valley earned the International Board Certified Lactation Consultant® (IBCLC) Care Award in 2021 and was listed on the Cal Hospital Compare Honor Roll in 2021 for meeting the statewide target aimed at reducing births via C-section in first-time mothers with low-risk pregnancies.

Register for a Class

Throughout the year, we offer a variety of classes and events to help everyone in your family prepare for your new baby. Most classes are offered at no cost.

Our highest priority is to create the safest environment so our physicians and caregivers can provide exceptional, high quality care. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have made some changes to our processes to help keep you safe.

  • All laboring women should enter the hospital through the Center for Maternal and Infant Care entrance. All patients and their support person will be screened.
  • Park in the Center for Maternal and Infant Care parking area and bring your belongings with you.
  • This entrance is open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • At night, please ring the bell at the Center for Maternal and Infant Care entrance to tell them you have arrived.

We recognize that these new processes are inconvenient, and we apologize. However, given the COVID-19 pandemic we have implemented these precautions for your safety, as well as the safety of your child and family. Thank you for your support.
