MEETING WOMEN'S HEALTHCARE NEEDS
From adolescence to young adulthood, parenthood to menopause and beyond, Queen of the Valley Medical Center provides high quality care along the entire spectrum of a woman's life. Board-certified physicians and certified nurse midwives offer a full range of gynecological and obstetrical care whatever the age or medical condition.
Family-Centered Maternity Care
For over 40 years, women throughout the Napa Valley have entrusted Queen of the Valley Medical Center with the lives of their new babies. From childbirth and breastfeeding classes to birth plans and labor coaching, we offer a comprehensive array of maternity services to help ensure the healthiest, safest pregnancy possible. Our caring, highly trained medical team is equipped to handle the most complicated pregnancies and works hard to create just the right birthing experience for expectant mothers and their families.
Bilingual Maternity Care
Because so many Napa residents turn to their native Spanish in stressful times, we make a special effort to hire bilingual nurses to coach all our maternity nurses in the cultural preferences of Hispanic families. This kind of sensitivity is a mark of our values and a measure of our commitment to all of the families we serve.
Prenatal Education
We offer not just one maternity class but an entire series of courses for every stage of pregnancy and early parenting, all with an emphasis on the emotional bonding that is the key to every baby's good health. We also work closely with other maternal and child care providers in the community to fill in any gaps in prenatal education and to cross refer families who have special needs. For more information, view the class and support group calendars , or call 707-257-2026.
WELCOME EVERY BABY PROGRAM
Queen of the Valley Medical Center is a sponsor participant in the community based Touchpoints home visiting program for every new baby in the Napa Valley. As a gift from the community, a specially trained nurse will visit you in your home before your baby is born and can provide support and home visits until your baby is 4 months old. Home visits focus on your baby's development, attachment and "falling in love" with your baby, and helping your baby to learn and grow. The home visit team is trained in child and family development, attachment, infant feeding, community resources and Dr. T. Berry Brazelton's Touchpoints Model. If you would like to participate in Welcome Every Baby, call 707-259-8190 for more information and to sign up.
GIVING SICK INFANTS A FIGHTING CHANCE
Designated a Community Level III Intensive Care Nursery , the Queen of the Valley Medical Center Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery (NICU) is the only medical facility in Napa County certified to care for critically ill babies. Board-certified neonatalogists, specially trained nurses and highly specialized equipment allow premature infants and other newborns with serious medical problems to be cared for right here at home with their parents nearby. We even have our own ICN transport team to transfer sick babies from surrounding hospitals. Parents gain peace of mind and their children get the best possible chance at a healthy life.
A baby born prematurely or with serious health problems may need to stay in the hospital for several weeks. Here in Napa, most babies who need intensive care, and most expectant mothers at high risk of complications, are able to find what they need without ever leaving the community.
Queen of the Valley is equipped to accept mothers for delivery as early as 28 weeks into a pregnancy. On a typical day, three of our six intensive care cribs are occupied by tiny or seriously ill babies. Only those infants with heart anomalies and other rare conditions ever have to leave home.
KEEPING KIDS HEALTHY
Queen of the Valley Medical Center's Pediatric Department specializes in the medical, and orthopedic care of infants and children. Board-certified pediatricians, pediatric nurses and other health care staff are available 24 hours a day to care for children and provide support for their parents and family.
Much of the dramatic progress made in human life expectancy during the 20th century has come not at the end of life but at the beginning. Premature babies weighing no more than two pounds now survive and thrive. Birth itself is no longer the danger it once was. Most of the infectious diseases that once crippled or cut short young lives are now well under control, and there is increasing hope for babies and children with even the most deadly health problems. Not long ago, such miracles were the purview of a handful of university medical centers. Now, top-quality maternal and infant care is possible much closer to home.
In the Napa Valley, families know they can turn with complete confidence to Queen of the Valley Medical Center because the Queen delivers what they need. More than 1000 babies safely enter the world here every year. Even those who are born with serious health problems are able to stay right here, close to the families who love them, while they receive the care that saves their lives and gives them a healthy start.
Two thirds of our obstetrical, neonatal, and pediatric nurses have been with us for 20 years. Their experience and dedication to this community is an invaluable asset and creates an atmosphere that is warm, welcoming, respectful, and healing.
