"Helping to Heal All We Touch," is at the heart of caring for our community's children.
The pediatric staff and parents work together during the child's hospital stay. Communication between parents, children, hospital staff and physicians is of vital importance. If you have additional questions, please feel free to ask the nurse on duty. Pediatricians usually make their rounds before 9:30 a.m. and are available for questions any time.
The following guidelines are provided for the benefit of the parents and child:
- Parents are encouraged to bring their child's favorite toy and/or blanket.
- One adult family member is invited to stay overnight with the child. A single lounge bed is available in the child's room for that family member who stays.
- Meals are provided free of charge for the family member who chooses to spend the night. Coffee and cold drinks are available in the unit kitchen for your convenience. If your child is not on a special diet, you may bring his/her favorite food for a special treat.
- Siblings can visit with the permission of the nurse on duty.
- Parents are welcomed to call the unit at any time to check on the child's condition. The direct phone line to pediatrics is 257-4027.
- When it is necessary to perform certain medical procedures, the child is often taken to the exam room. We ask that parents remain in the child's room or the lounge during this time. Your cooperation is appreciated.
Please ask your nurse about the following services available for your family needs:
- Tutoring: Arrangements can be made for long term school age patients.
- Spiritual Care: For all faiths.
- Nutrition Counseling
- Queen's Carriage: Transportation to and from the hospital for those using hospital services. Visitors may use the service as space permits.
- Patient Representative: Available to help with concerns.
