"2009 Bi-National Health Fair"


(Napa, CA) – The fifth annual Napa Valley "Bi-National Health Fair" will be held on Sunday, October 11th, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Community Health Clinic Ole, 1141 Pear Tree Lane, Napa Valley, CA. Sponsors for this year’s fair include Queen of the Valley Medical Center, the Napa County Bi-National Health Task Force, Community Health Clinic Ole, Kaiser Permanente, St. Helena Hospital and the Health Initiative of the Americas.

"We are thrilled that more than 40 community organizations are joining with us this year to provide education, information and valuable health screenings," says Catalina Chavez-Tapia, Healthy Communities Coordinator at Queen of the Valley and Founding Member of the Bi-National Napa Valley Chapter. "In 2008, 941individuals were served and we provided 250 free health screenings and assessments. We are expecting an even bigger turnout this year and hope to see everyone there."

Dr. Maryam Mohsenzadeh will be on hand with the Queen of the Valley Mobile Dental Clinic to provide dental screenings for children in attendance.  "I look forward to this event each year," Dr. Mohsenzadeh says. "It gives us a wonderful chance to reach out and make a difference in our community."

In addition to the Queen of the Valley Mobile Dental Clinic, California’s First Five Van will host play activities for attending children and Community Health Clinic Ole pediatrician Dr. Sonia Lee will provide comprehensive health assessments for children who don’t currently have a medical home. Adults who do not have a medical home can also receive free screenings and schedule follow up appointments at Community Health Clinic Ole. Many other health care and information providers will be in attendance.

Taiko drummers, Zumba dancers, Hawaiian dancers and Aztec dancers will entertain the crowd. Tasty and nutritious food and drinks will also be available for purchase at a minimal cost.

Bi-National Health Week (BHW) is one of the largest mobilization efforts of federal and state government agencies, community-based organizations, and volunteers in the Americas to improve the health and well-being of the underserved Latino population living in the United States and Canada. It encompasses an annual weeklong series of health promotion and health education activities that include workshops, insurance referrals, and medical screenings.
