Queen of the Valley Medical Center Offers Iron Man on the Lawn

(Napa) – Please join us on Wednesday, September 16th for a "guys’ night out" featuring important men’s health information and an exclusive, outdoor screening of the recent Marvel Studios movie, "Iron Man." A movie about a robotic exoskeleton that becomes the technologically advanced superhero, Iron Man.
But robotics isn’t just a fantasy for the movies – it’s now a real life option that can be used in many surgical procedures. In 2002, Queen of the Valley Medical Center became the first hospital in the North Bay to acquire the da Vinci Robotic-Assisted Surgical System that allows our surgeons to perform complex procedures with tremendous precision through very small incisions And that means less pain and shorter recovery times for surgical patients.

The evening begins with Queen of the Valley urologists Dr. James Hendricks and Dr. Herkanwal Khaira discussing the versatile capabilities of the da Vinci surgical system, in treating one of the most common cancers in men. "When you are treating prostate cancer, millimeters matter. Many important nerve fibers and blood vessels are attached to the prostate gland," Dr. Hendricks explains. "To spare these nerves, they must be delicately and precisely separated from the prostate before its removal." Dr. Khaira adds, "The precision, vision and control provided by the da Vinci system helps us remove the cancerous prostate without damaging those important nerves and blood vessels, thereby preserving important bladder control and sexual function."

Find out how robotics may be able to aid in your future health care needs, then stay for an outdoor screening of the hit film Iron Man, which takes the science of robotics and its health care applications to a fantastic new level!
