Queen of the Valley Medical Center Welcomes New Chief Neonatologist & Director of Newborn Services

Napa, Calif. (September 11, 2017) – Queen of the Valley Medical Center is pleased to announce the appointment of Dushyant Oza, MD, as the Chief Neonatologist and Director of Newborn Services. Dr. Oza joined St. Joseph Health Medical Group in July and he works in the Queen of the Valley (QVMC) Maternal and Infant Care Center.

Dr. Oza cares for babies who are born at term, pre-term and/or require specialized care and monitoring in our neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). He is responsible for providing mothers, their families and newborns with a higher level of neonatal care. In addition, Dr. Oza will be involved in educating, supporting and providing resources and guidance to nurses.

“The selection of Dr. Oza is consistent with our desire to provide the highest quality of care to mothers, newborns and families in Napa,” said Larry Coomes, Chief Executive. “By working in tandem with the labor and delivery team, and other departments throughout the hospital, Dr. Oza will help us move forward in our journey to become accredited by Baby-Friendly USA®, Inc.”

He brings a wealth of experience to this position, having previously served in a faculty position at Stanford University, as well as leading in several clinical and administrative roles. He served as the Director of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Chair of the Pediatric Department at a community hospital in the Bay Area for several years. He has helped community hospitals across California become Level I and Level II NICU’s.

Prior to accepting this position, Dr. Oza worked as a locum tenens physician at QVMC for two years.

“The caregivers here are some of the most energetic, involved and ambitious staff I have ever worked with. From the nurses to the executive team, everyone wants to provide the best care possible to our patients,” he said. “I have received exceptional support from Queen of the Valley’s leadership team to continue to continue to grow and enhance our mother and baby unit and I am looking forward to serving the community in my new role.”

Dr. Oza earned his Bachelors in Medicine, Bachelors in Surgery (MBBS) degree from Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College in Indore, India. He completed his pediatric residency at Ochsner-Tulane Program in New Orleans. He is board-certified, and recertified, in neonatology from the University of Louisville in Kentucky.

Dr. Oza has lived in other states over the years, but he has called the Bay Area home for more than 35 years. Dr. Oza hails from a family of physicians. He is a mentor to his two children who are in medical school pursuing specialties in pediatrics and internal medicine.
