Community Level CPR Programs

Heartsaver CPR AED

Heartsaver CPR AED is a classroom, video-based, instructor-led course that teaches adult CPR and AED use, as well as how to relieve choking on an adult. Optional modules include child CPR and AED use, infant CPR and child and infant choking. Heartsaver CPR AED teaches skills with AHA’s research-proven Practice-While-Watching (PWW) technique, which allows instructors to observe the students, provide feedback and guide the students’ learning of skills. Upon successful completion of the course, including a skills test, students receive a Heartsaver CPR AED course completion card, valid for 2 years.

Primary Audience:

This course is for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in CPR and AED use to meet job, regulatory or other requirements. It is also good for child care providers or expecting mothers and their family.

Heartsaver First Aid CPR and AED

The American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid, CPR & AED course will cover adult, child, and infant CPR & AED as well as first aid procedures such as cleaning and bandaging wounds, applying pressure to stop bleeding, broken bones, seizures, Epi-pen, and other life threatening emergencies.

Cost is $80.

Health Care Provider Level Courses

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

For pediatricians, emergency physicians, family physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, paramedics, respiratory therapists, and other health care providers who initiate and direct advanced life support in pediatric emergencies.

  • Designed to aid the pediatric health care provider in developing the knowledge and skills necessary to efficiently and effectively manage critically ill infants and children, resulting in improved outcomes.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

For emergency, intensive care, or critical care health care providers such as physicians, nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists, and other professionals who may need to respond to a cardiovascular emergency.

  • health care providers will enhance their skills in the treatment of the adult victim of a cardiac arrest or other cardiopulmonary emergencies.

  • ACLS emphasizes the importance of basic life support CPR to patient survival; the integration of effective basic life support with advanced cardiovascular life support interventions; and the importance of effective team interaction and communication during resuscitation.

  • Students engage in simulated clinical scenarios that encourage active, hands-on participation through learning stations where students will practice essential skills individually, as part of a team, and as team leader. Realistic simulations reinforce the following key concepts: proficiency in basic life support care; recognizing and initiating early management of peri-arrest conditions; managing cardiac arrest; identifying and treating ischemic chest pain and acute coronary syndromes; recognizing other life-threatening clinical situations (such as stroke) and providing initial care; ACLS algorithms; and effective resuscitation team dynamics.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Beginner 2 Day Class

CPR Certification For emergency, intensive care, or critical care healthcare providers such as physicians, nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists, and other professionals who may need to respond to a cardiovascular emergency.

2 day course. $250 per person. Location Queen of the Valley Medical Center Classroom A.

Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (BLS)

For health care providers - for example, EMS personnel, physician assistants, physicians, dentists, nurses, respiratory therapists and others who must have a credential (card) documenting successful completion of a CPR course.

  • This course is designed to teach the skills of CPR for victims of all ages, use of an automated external defibrillator and relief of choking.

  • A student CD, included with the text, contains supplemental information for interested students on topics such as stroke, cardiac arrest, and special resuscitation situations.

  • The course is video-based with instructor-led discussion and simulation. Students participate in, practice and complete various skills and learning stations.

  • Ideal for learners who prefer group interaction and feedback from an instructor while learning skills.

Neonatal Resuscitation Program

The NRP Instructor Led Events is the part 2 of the 7th Edition NRP Provider program. Participants are required to have completed the part 1 portion of the course and print their completion certificate and bring it to class. Participants (Non-employees) are to purchase a course from the American Association of Pediatrics website www.aap.org/nrp and complete the exam.

Participants then click on Part 2 and then look for QVMC Napa - NRP Skills Validation and register for an upcoming class. After registration, they should call 707-251-1370 to arrange to pay for the class.

Cost - $140 (without book)

The Hospital can loan you a textbook when you pay for the class.
