Queen of the Valley Medical Center Foundation celebrates cancer survivorship; Annual "Reach for the Stars" luncheon and fashion show April 7

(March 7, 2012 -- Napa, CA) Queen of the Valley Medical Center Foundation will hold its 19th annual "Reach for the Stars" luncheon and fashion show on April 7, 2012, at the Silverado Resort and Spa. The event is a celebration of life that brings together individuals living with cancer, friends and family, physicians, care providers and community members.

Proceeds from the event will provide scholarships that allow patients to participate in the Cancer Wellness Program at Queen of the Valley Medical Center free of charge. More than 324 scholarships have been given to patients since the Cancer Wellness Program began in 2007. The Cancer Wellness Program is a comprehensive program that combines exercise, nutritional counseling and psycho-social and spiritual support for patients who have completed or recently received treatment for cancer. The program is individualized for each patient and designed to provide guidance and support in the journey of becoming a proactive cancer survivor.

This uplifting luncheon centers around a fashion show that features cancer survivors wearing clothing from area boutiques. Survivors share their moving stories in the program and the event allows individuals living with cancer a chance to celebrate, feel beautiful and share their experiences. Queen of the Valley Medical Center Foundation will also have available for purchase "Stars" in honor or remembrance of those who have been touched by cancer.

"Over the years this has grown to be a much loved and anticipated event because it is so life-affirming for all who attend," said Paige Smith, producer of this year's Reach event and a cancer survivor. "There is a feeling of solidarity in the belief that life is meaningful and beautiful, even after a cancer diagnosis."

The Reach for the Stars event was originally established in 1993 to buy new equipment and technologies that support cancer care at Queen of the Valley Medical Center.

"The ability for the hospital to provide state-of-the-art, lifesaving cancer care would not be possible without the commitment and generosity of our community," added Elaine John, Vice President for Philanthropy at Queen of the Valley Medical Center and Chief Development Officer for the Foundation. "It is inspiring that we have been able to fully fund the participation of all who are eligible and will benefit from the services offered through the Queen's Cancer Wellness Program."

Tickets for Reach for the Stars are $85.00 per guest. To purchase tickets for the event or to reserve a Star, please call Queen of the Valley Medical Center Foundation at (707) 257-4044 or visit www.queensfoundation.org.
