Queen of the
Valley Medical Center Receives
Top Honors for Cardiac Care
April 24, 2007
Napa, CA – Queen
of the Valley Medical Center has been recognized by Blue Shield of
California as a Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care. As a result,
members covered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies will see from
this designation that the Queen has met or exceeded certain criteria
that demonstrates reliability in delivering cardiac care and better
overall outcomes for patients.
Queen of the Valley’s Regional Heart Center provides a full continuum
of care for patients – from screening and prevention to early diagnosis,
intervention, treatment and rehabilitation. Its Trauma Center and emergency
departments are equipped with dedicated cardiac rooms and specialists
on duty 24 hours a day.
Queen of the Valley continually strives to be the leader in cardiac
care. Our cardiac team has a vast experience in vein harvesting, valve
replacement, mitral valve repair and robotic assisted surgery. Advanced
techniques and instrumentation also allows our surgeons to operate on
a beating heart without using a heart and lung bypass pump. Queen of
the Valley Medical Center uses this procedure in 90 percent of its open-heart
surgeries, which is well above the national average. The off-pump surgery
means patients can go home in just a few days and are much less at risk
for potentially serious problems commonly associated with open heart
surgery, such as bleeding and strokes.
“Heart surgery has come a long way in the past 30 years. We can
now tailor a surgery to an individual patient’s needs, which is
a major reason for both our excellent clinical outcomes and in a patient’s
quality of life after surgery.” Said Dr. Robert Klingman, Cardiothoracic
Surgeon.
The criteria for selection to the Blue Distinction Centers for Cardiac
Care program were developed with input from expert physician panels and
national organizations and include a comprehensive evaluation of structure,
process and outcome measures. Blue Distinction Centers for Cardiac Care
provide a full range of cardiac care services including inpatient cardiac
care, cardiac rehabilitation, cardiac catheterization and cardiac surgery.
Each designated facility must have scored either 55 points or 45 target
points and meet program requirement.
